This text - in some ways similar to Leander's essay - reviews the changing purposes, practices, and forms taken on in ethnographic research of digital spaces.
Bezemer & Mavers: Multimodal Transcription as Academic Practice: A Social Semiotic Perspective
This essay provides an overview of approaches to transcription that involve image & video. I think one aim of our study would be to open up these ideas for transcription still further.
Flewit: Bringing Ethnography to a Multimodal Investigation of Early Literacy in a Digital Age.
Flewit desribes a multimodal, ethnographic study of language/literacy - a focus shared by our study. Her essay begins by placing multimodal ethnography within the field of ethnography itself. I think each of us may place our studies within slightly different "fields" - and take on different methods for documentation/interacting with that field - but her "set up" section is an example of how we might want to place our work within a history of ethnographic practice.
